OMN, new musical project

OMN proposes a sound and visual journey by the pianist from Tenerife Polo Ortí, the Uruguayan violinist, Federico Nathan and the Madrid percussionist, Sergio Martínez.

Three generations of composers and performers with solid training and a recognized artistic career, whose common axis revolves around the Berklee College of Music in Valencia, where these musicians carry out their teaching work.

It is here where the idea of lighting a sound proposal is forged that unites its three musical visions: jazz, flamenco and popular - contemporary music, all of them performed under the same prism. Through research, fusion and exploration of new avenues of artistic expression, Ortí, Martínez and Nathan - OMN - create music without borders, on its most versatile side and free from prejudice. In short, a risky, interesting and deeply imaginative proposal.

"This is an historic moment in which humanity is undergoing a major change. We are direct witnesses to a boiling planet burning and stir to clean all impurities. To us to make the change to a better world and for that, we must raise our consciousness, covering a large halo of love for our beloved Earth".

"Vivimos un momento histórico en el que la humanidad está sufriendo un cambio trascendental. Somos testigos directos de una ebullición del planeta que arde y se agita para limpiar todas sus impurezas. De nosotros depende que el cambio sea hacia un mundo mejor y, para ello, debemos elevar nuestras consciencias, cubriendo de un gran halo de amor a nuestra querida Tierra."

Polo Ortí presents this proposal which consists of performing different concerts in the Canary Islands with a new trio format called WOK (Wheatley - Ortí - Kéry). Since Polo Ortí returned to Tenerife only a few months ago after eleven years in Valencia as an associate professor at Berklee School of Music, he has performed several concerts with different groups on the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. The public's reception has been such that tickets have even sold out*.

In some of these performances, Ortí has received two awards in recognition of his artistic career from the International Jazzday 2023 of Las Palmas de GC and the City Council of Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife). With WOK, Polo Ortí presents two very young international musicians with a long musical career. The concert proposes Ortí's own compositions and some jazz standards,

Polo Ortí is, above all, known for his jazz facet. However, many of the compositions he has created throughout his extensive career could not and should not have been considered jazz. In fact, they could not and should not have been included in any musical style. Because Polo Ortí has created his own music and forged his own stamp, the fruit of a musical legacy acquired in the middle of the 20th century and culminated by the influences of the current century. Javier Vercher, on the other hand, is a pure jazzman at heart, whose approach embraces both the avant-garde and the old school. His soundscapes develop gradually and, at times, a palpable sense of the spiritual. Polo and Javier, piano and sax, will combine their talents to give us music imbued with personality and their own stamp. Through an intimate and evocative concert, the musicians will cover a repertoire of their own compositions and revisions of well-known jazz standards. The connection and affection that both musicians have for each other on stage has been reflected in several concerts they have performed throughout Spain. Now, for the first time in the Canary Islands, we will finally be able to enjoy the magic of these two great musicians.

Polo Ortí will play his own piano music while performing in live the BSO of the wonderful movie "City of Lights" (1931) directed and performed by Charlie Chaplin. This concert is part of the Modern Times Festival (Lanzarote - Canary Islands) , in which different pianists will play different silent films live.
